A new series from Hallmark perfect for fans of 1923, has just taken a major step forward a few weeks before Christmas. News broke this afternoon that Hallmark is developing a prequel series to When Calls the Heart, which his reportedly titled Hope Valley: 1874. Taylor Sheridan fans are familiar with shows like 1923 and 1883, which are titled based on the year they take place. The show is expected to begin production next week in Vancouver, with Bethany Joy Lenz, Benjamin Ayres, Jill Hennessy, Roan Curtis, and Lachlan Quarmby all attached to star. It will premiere this March.

Lenz will play Rebecca Clarke, a woman who travels from Chicago to the Western Canadian frontier with her 11-year-old daughter. When her wagon gives out from under her, she’s forced to seek help from the local rancher and bachelor, Tom Moore (Ayres). Rebecca insists on staying detached from Tom and focusing on the future for her and her daughter, but as the season goes along, she finds she can’t help but fall for him. The more people she meets in his quaint little town, the more she’s convinced that she’s been right here at home all along.

It certainly has all the makings for a classic Hallmark series, but it won’t be until it premieres this March to see how it resonates with the masses. Taylor Sheridan fans don’t have to wait until March for new content from the Western scribe, though. The fourth season of Mayor of Kingstown is currently running alongside the second season of Landman. The third season of Tulsa King recently concluded, and a fourth season of the show is confirmed to be on the way.

‘1923’ Isn’t the Last ‘Yellowstone’ Spin-Off

The first two Yellowstone spin-offs came in the form of 1883 and 1923, but the show is expanding further with more offshoots based on different stars. The next Yellowstone spin-off on the schedule is Y: Marshals, which follows Luke Grimes' Kaycee Dutton after the events of the five-season Western series. A spin-off series focused on Beth and Rip is also in the works at Paramount, along with The Madison, which stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell. Sheridan may be leaving Paramount in the next few years, but he has plenty of shows to bring to the small screen before he exits.
